Need some things explained to me

Hi! I'm one of the kickstarter backers, obviously, but I guess I'm a little late to the party. I haven't been actively trying to read up on how this all works until today. I have some fairly fundamental questions about how this game is played/will be played. Sorry if these are really nooby questions. Also sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum... this one just seemed like the best available fit.

 - Are games played in real-time? I'm getting that impression from the story creation page. When I hit the "publish" button I get a window that says I'm waiting for a hero to join the story, and I don't seem to be able to do anything else at that point. (there's not even a "cancel" or "back" button, which is annoying, but a seperate issue)

 - So, players can create heroes, which they use to play through stories written by other players. What I'm wondering is how does that work when your hero is a talking dog from the planet zebulon, and you try to play through a verisimilar story set in modern-day los angeles? I mean, it seems like you'd wind up with a ton of cases where the hero and the story don't mesh. I'm just wondering what this game's attitude to that is, and if there's some mechanics that are designed to accomodate that somehow.

That's all for now. I'm sure I'll have a lot more questions later. So far, I'm not finding much help on the website itself. There needs to be a lot more explanation/instruction, since this is a pretty novel little gameplay concept. really excited about the future though!

To answer your first question, the games are played in real time but both God and the Hero can come and go as they please - if a player leaves the game it is saved until they come back and take their turn.

As for the second question, I'll have to leave that one for the developers. It's a question I have considered myself in the past and I'll be interested to see how the devs handle it.

I've just burst into Gingerben's game uninvited and introduced the anti-hero Bob, when he was nicely asking for a Jack in the arrange a game subforum. My feeling is that some kind of a synopsis/pitch is needed *before* the player dives in to creating their hero. At the same time, though, you don't want to be too prescriptive with who the hero might be, as the player ends up being something between a pawn and an actor performing merely for the narrator's pleasure.
